AMEX – 2016 State of Women-Owned Businesses Report
For the sixth straight year, American Express has released its analysis of the state of women-owned businesses in the United States. Like previous reports, the 2016 State of Women-Owned Businesses report was built on cumulative findings and focused on long-term trends (1997-current). Unlike previous reports, the new report focused on specific trends that have occurred since the 2007-2009 recession.
Noteworthy in this area is the growth in the number of women-owned businesses since 2007. The number of businesses owned by women, defined as a business having at least 51% female ownership, increased by 45% compared to a 9% increase in the number of businesses overall. This is a growth rate five times the national average! Read the full 2016 State of Women-Owned Businesses Report.
